LADY TITANS DEFEAT NORTHRIDGE, BOYS LOSE BY ONE
Titan Track continued to show improvement last week in the dual meet against Northridge. The Lady Titans won by a score of 74 - 53, while the boys lost 68.5 - 67.5. Right now the scores are not important- the individual improvement and the desire to really COMPETE are important!! And as coaches, we really think we saw some big strides taken in both categories. The wind and cold hampered many of the times, heights and distances, but the great efforts were in abundance.
The following scored for the Lady Titans: Felicia Sortor, 1st 200m dash (28.40), 2nd 100m dash (13.62); Aubrey Eddy, 2nd 400m dash (1:08.29); Hannah Williams, 1st 800m run (2:54.0), 1st 3200m run (13:01.0); Vanessa Phelps, 3rd 400m dash (1:11.46); Hilary Peterson, 1st 1600m run (6:24.0), 2nd 800m run (2:56.0); Haley Busby, 3rd 800m run (2:59.0); Ricki Janes, 2nd 1600m run (6:26); Abby Rich, 2nd 3200m run (13:02.0); Kiana Tebbs, 3rd 3200m run (13:51.0); McKayla Williams, 2nd 100m hurdles (17.09), 2nd 300m hurdles (2nd 300m hurdles); Sasha Russell, 3rd 100m hurdles (17.52), 3rd 300m hurdles (54.68); Jessica Crawley, 1st shot put (32'11"), 2nd discus (68'01" ); Ashley Hunzeker, 1st javelin (77'07"), 1st discus ( ), 3rd shot put (27'02"), Jenny Little, 3rd discus (59'08), 3rd long jump (14'04"); Reilee Batchelor, 2nd javelin (73'10"); and Michele Arave, 2nd long jump (4'08").
Placing in the top three for the boys were: Tyrell Yardley, 1st pole vault (8'06"), 1st 100m dash (11.15), 1st 200m dash (22.93), 3rd 110m hurdles (17.39 ); Aaron Van Voris, 3rd 100m dash (11.68), 3rd long jump (17'09.50"); Anthony Winegar, 1st 110m hurdles (16.43); Chris Jackson, 1st 300m hurdles (43.85); Aaron Hill, 1st shot put (38'07"), 1st discus (132'09"); Kuyler Thompson, 2nd discus (111'11); Bryan Cook, 3rd discus (94'02"); Jake Anderson, 1st javelin (136'08"); Tyler Siddoway, 2nd javelin (123'05"); Tanner Burton, tie 1st high jump (5'10"); Alex Garrett, tie 1st high jump (5'10"); Andrew Cook, tie 3rd high jump (5'08"); Ryan Palmer, 2nd pole vault (7'06"); Zac Parker, 3rd pole vault (7'06"); and Trenton Judd, Yardley, Jackson and Winegar, 1st 4x100m relay (46.37).
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Chosen as Athletes of the Week were McKayla Williams and Aaron Hill. McKayla ran two good hurdle races and a tough leg on the 4x4 while Aaron won both the shot put and discus and continues to work very hard and improve rapidly.
THIS WEEK
There is no region dual/tri meet this week. We are not going to either the Alta or Timpanogos Invitationals that were listed on the schedule. Instead, we will have an Intrasquad Meet Friday at 3:00 pm. This will be a meet between the Juniors and Sophomores. All events except the 4 x 100 and Medley Relays will be contested. The only relay will be an 8 x 400 consisting of three girls and five boys for each TEAM. Boys and Girls points will be combined to determine the winner of the meet.

Titan Track Update - March 24
TITANS FALL TO FREMONT, DEFEAT CLEARFIELD
The young Titan Track TEAM continued to show good improvement Wednesday at the tri-meet held at Fremont. The Silverwolves won the meet, but Syracuse was a strong second. If the meet would have been just a dual meet with Clearfield, the girls score would have been Titans 83, Falcons 42. The boys score would have been Titans 81, Falcons 56. The places listed will be based on a dual meet with Clearfield- we’ll play like Fremont wasn’t there.
The following Lady Titans placed: Abby Rich, 1st 3200m run (13:30.9); Rhylie Gray, 1st 100m hurdles (21.94), 3rd long jump (12'01); Sasha Russell, 2nd 100m dash (14.27), 2nd 200m dash (29.35); Courtney Scott, 3rd 100m dash (15.25); Hannah Williams, 1st 1600m run (5:48.0); Vanessa Phelps, 2nd 400m dash (1:11.31); McKayla Williams, 1st 300m hurdles (50.42), 2nd 200m dash (29.24); Aubrey Eddy, 1st 800m run (2:40.7); Hilary Peterson, 2nd 800m run (2:48.6); Kiana Tebbs, 3rd 800m run (2:55.1); Ashley Hunzeker, 1st discus (76'04), 1st javelin (85'09), 2nd shot put (29'09), 1st long jump (14'05): Jessica Crawley, 1st shot put (30'05), 2nd discus (67'02); Shaelynn Stoddard, 3rd shot put (26'03); Nikel Taylor, 2nd long jump (12'05); Michelle Arave, 3rd high jump (4'08); Megan Butler, Arave, Hannah Williams and Rich, 1st medley relay (5:02.0); and Sasha Russell, Hannah and McKayla Williams and Hilary Peterson 1st 4x400m relay (4:29.9).
Boys scoring were: Kyle Kelly, 2nd 3200m run (12:32.4) and 3rd 1600m run (5:31.1); Steve Wilcox, 3rd 3200m run (12:43.0); Anthony Winegar, 1st 110m hurdles (16.90), 1st 300m hurdles (43.75); Aaron Van Voris, 1st 100m dash (12.30), 1st 200m dash (25.12); Rick Reardon, 3rd 100m dash (12.46), 3rd 200m dash (25.61); Tyrell Yardley, 1st 400m dash (53.45), 1st pole vault (8'06); Chris Jackson, 2nd 300m hurdles (44.22); Willis Ellsworth, 2nd 800m run (2:20.9); Tyler Siddoway, 2nd 200m dash (25.56); Aaron Hill, 1st discus (136'10); 1st shot put (37'00); Kuyler Thompson, 2nd shot put (36'03), 2nd discus (105'06); Derek Gann, 3rd discus (93'01); Jake Anderson, 3rd shot put (35'01), 3rd javelin (131'01); Ryan Palmer, 2nd long jump (17'03); Tanner Burton, 3rd long jump (17'03), 2nd high jump (5'10); Van Voris, Yardley, Jackson and Winegar, 1st 4x100m relay (44.87); Jackson, Winegar, Brian Killingbeck and Ryan McNeill, 1st 4x400m relay (3:42.81).
These are some very impressive performances. However, there were literally dozens of performances that were equally impressive that didn’t place in the top three. The key to our success will be EVERYONE continuing to set PR’s. The World Record is someone’s PR.

Chosen as Athletes of the Week were Aubrey Eddy and Anthony Winegar. Aubrey ran a great race to capture the 800m run and Anthony finished the day with 4-first places against Clearfield.

The girls score was WX 78, East 69, Syracuse 39. With such little experience on our roster, that is a very good showing. As you get into better condition and learn more about your event and what it takes to compete, the improvements will be dramatic. We will also be experimenting with many of you in different events. We want to give all of you the very best chance to experience success.
McKayla Williams ran a great early-season time (1:01.77) in winning the 400m dash. Abby Rich won the 3200m run in 13:20.0 and was 3rd in the 1600m run (5:57.9). Ashley Hunzeker was very busy placing 2nd in the shot put (27'00), 3rd in the long jump (14'00), 4th in the javelin (74'09) and 4th in the discus (77'02). Titan Track Update - March 10
HISTORY MADE
The first week of Outdoor Track and Field at Syracuse High was a huge success. Over 125 took part in the workouts. That’s the good news. The bad news is that only about 50 made it to all five workouts. If we can get 125 to all of the workouts, this is going to be a great program. In years to come, you will be able to look back and take pride in the fact that you helped build Titan Track into a State power.
Some of you receiving this email have not been to a workout- many of you have been excused. For those who are not sure if they should give Track and Field a try, here’s a hint: It’s easier to join the Track TEAM than it is to run away from me for the rest of the year. I’ll hunt you down. Hey, come out, give the sport an honest effort. There’s a money back guarantee: If you join the TEAM, work hard, and at the end of the season feel like it wasn’t worth the effort, I will reimburse you for any expenses you have had. That includes fees, shoes, equipment, etc.
FIRST WEEK OBSERVATIONS
This is a learning experience for all of us- including the coaches. There isn’t a TEAM in the State with less experience. But, we will overcome that inexperience by working harder than other teams.
Track is a tough sport to coach. There are 14 individual events and three relays. With only five coaches, much of what you do will be on your own. It is important that the more experienced athletes help the “rookies” when a coach isn’t available.
Great job on the workouts!! Most put forth an honest effort to complete the workout to the best of their ability. The time trials Friday showed us that the potential is there: we just have to develop it.
HANDOUTS, ETC.
The Track “Bible”, event handouts and videos will be kept in the Announcer’s Booth. Pick them up, check them out, become a student of your event.
THIS WEEK
Workouts- We will be doing more speed in all of the track events. We will also be working on handoffs in preparation for the first meet. While some things will change in preparation for the first meet, the main focus of the workouts will remain to get you ready for Region and State in May.
Wednesday- Everyone who has turned in all forms (Yellow Info Card, Physical, Tryout Checklist, Code of Conduct), paid their fees, cleared their U’s, and is academically eligible will receive warmups and a uniform after practice.
Friday- FIRST TITAN TRACK MEET. We will go against Woods Cross and East at WX. All eligible athletes will be excused at 1:15. The bus will leave at 1:30. Our main goal is to gain some experience. But we will also put people into events to give us the best chance to win the meet.
$$$$
If you’ve read this email, come to room 2118 Monday morning. The first one to correctly answer a question will win $10 or a t-shirt (your choice).
